Problem continued in safe mode. Checked resolution settings and the following options were bachelor - 1152x864; 1024x768 (recommended and selected); and 800x600. Ran devmgmt.msc & uninstalled device, rebooted no alter. Whatever more suggestions?

Sounds to me like a display adapter commuter problem.  This is a known issue currently, rather widespread for devices using AMD graphics cards.  It resulted from MS providing less than perfect commuter updates for AMD Radeon display adapters.Exercise you lot have an AMD display adapter?

Determine what brand name graphics card aka (display adapter, video card, graphics processing unit) you have on your device... pastcorrect clicking the Start menu>Device Director>Display Adapter>Expand it>Properties>all right clicks.

If AMD is your make proper noun brandish adapter, you should update the commuter by going to the industry's website HERE  selecting "Autodetect" then download what autodetect finds for you.  This is the easiest mode to do it if  you have an AMD display adapter.

If y'all don't have a AMD Radeon Display Adapter on your device, then this wouldn't employ to you.

My brandish resolution problems were corrected immediately after updating the Display Adapter Driver from the AMD website plant above using AutoDetect.  Sleep mode was again found in the close down options

Wayne, I've tried your suggestions, but even so no change.

I have a ATI Mobility Radeon Hard disk drive 4200 Hd serial which hasn't had a driver update for most 4 years. When I check the backdrop for the display, it says that "no drivers are installed or are not needed". My active display driver is a generic Microsoft basic display driver which does not have the 1920x1080 resolution setting and so far I am unable to get to the AMD driver. Machine detect says components are installed, just I cannot bypass the Microsoft basic adapter - what's side by side?

We are going to take to await for MS to issue a prepare for the driver update they issued.

The ATI Mobility Radeon Hard disk drive 4200 and other drivers, are no longer receiving updates from AMD.

The generic driver that MS provides will take to be adjusted for proper functionality for users.

This all means we have to wait for a gear up...no doubt coming soon now that Thanksgiving is over.

Thanks Wayne - Ken'due south resolution worked for me and I'm back where I should exist.  Thank You for your input and hopefully I won't accept to go through this over again, even if I accept equipment almost equally old every bit me (LOL)
